2020 had to have at least ONE redeeming factor, right? Well, look no further… The trailer for Sir Attenborough’s latest documentary is here.

It’s a fact of life that everyone must have binged at least one David Attenborough documentary during lockdown, just to feel *something.* So, it’s music to all our ears that the trailer for his newest BBC documentary “Extinction: The Facts” has arrived.

The documentary focuses on, as the title suggests, how extinction will impact humans and the greater planet in general. The one hour documentary will first be shown on Sunday 13th September on BBC One at 8pm.

Do you know how we said this could be 2020’s saving grace? Maybe, not quite… Attenborough’s newest hit has some pretty shocking, and downright devastating facts to contend with. It’s estimated that nearly one million species are threatened by extinction every year, and is now operating at a pace that is 100 times the natural evolutionary rate.

“Extinction: The Facts” follows on from last year’s “Climate Change: The Facts,” which revealed how the crisis has consequences for us all – food and water security being just one of the many.

The documentary challenges what governments and industries worldwide can do to combat the crisis, and what we, as individuals, can do also. It focuses on how illegal wildlife trade, overfishing, climate change, pollution and land use, are all threatening the nature of our planet. Attenborough himself said

We are facing a crisis and one that has consequences for us all. It threatens our ability to feed ourselves, to control our climate, it even puts us at greater risk of pandemic diseases such as COVID-19.”
