What could ever go wrong with just trying to break the world record for the most balloons ever released? A lot.
The United Way released 1.5 millions balloons in Cleveland, Ohio in 1986.
Instead of being a beautiful and fun sight for onlookers, the event took a horrific turn.
September 1986, balloon artist, Treb Heining tells the reporter that he had been designing balloons since he was 15 years-old.
Fans even showed up to support and bring more balloons for the record.
Due to high pressure warnings, the balloons were released early.
You can see the balloons completely engulf a tower like smoke, however that is not the scary part.
While most citizens were enjoying breaking a world record, coast guards were in the middle of the lake in search for two lost fishermen amongst the sea of balloons.
Unfortunately, the bodies of the lost men were washed ashore days later.
