There are so many beautiful moments in sport which can make even the passive fan sit up and take notice.
The inspiration that competitors can give us through moments of brilliance is incredible. This is one of those moments. Amateur golfer Laurent Hurtubise made a hole-in-one at The American Express Pro-Am Tournament in La Quinta, California. And he only has one arm.
The golfer plays with only his left arm after being born without most of his right. However, it hasn’t stopped him playing brilliant shots. Take a look at Laurent’s masterpiece below:
Amazing right? The golfer was taking part in a tournament where amateurs play alongside professionals which gives them an opportunity to shine in a big tournament. He made the shot on the fourth hole which is 151 yards long. He outshone his professional companions with that unquestionable shot of the day.
The ecstatic reaction of his fellow players and their caddies shows that sport doesn’t always have to be about competition. He was playing alongside the professional Troy Meritt who said:
It was one of the coolest moments of my career. Golf is for everybody. It doesn’t matter the limitations, if you enjoy the game you can make it happen.
The man himself called it ‘incredible.’ Hurtubise has previously spoken at a hospital near his home in Montreal to tell his story. It’s obvious he deeply cares about what sport has done for his life having taken it up to show other kids he wasn’t different from them. His willingness to pass on that message shows his drive to help others. He said in a newspaper interview:
It does feel fulfilling when someone tells me they’ve been inspired to play a sport because of me.
Social media has already spread the wonder shot to over one million people. Without a doubt Laurent will have inspired many others to try something which seems impossible. He shows that giving up is never an option. The Paralympics are also coming up this summer which will shine an even greater light on the incredible sporting prowess of disabled athletes.
