Comedian and TikToker Ryan Kelly, professionally known as Youth Pastor Ryan, has shared his frightening story of surviving a plane crash. Kelly’s video went immediately viral on TikTok, counting already 7.9 million views. Further, Ryan debunked a conspiracy theory about airlines and their interest in your death.

As the pandemic is ceasing, people are taking flights more frequently. Fortunately, the statistics from 2020 show that there is a chance of one in 3.7 million flights that a plane would crash with you. Indeed, flying is much safer (and much nicer) than driving a car. On average, there were 155 deaths on the road per 3.7 million people in 2020.

Yet, what happens if you unluckily find yourself on a crashing plane? Luckily for you, according to the US National Transportation Safety Board, the survivability rate is 95.7 percent. Still, being on a crashing plan is no fun, and Ryan Kelly could agree (even if he makes fun out of it).

How Kelly Survived a Plane Crash

In the early 2010s, when Kelly and his family were traveling from Newark, New Jersey, to St. Louis, Missouri on a smaller jet, Kelly and his brother were seated in the emergency exit row.

The plane finally took off after hours of delays when all of a sudden, an electric storm surrounded the plane. After exiting the storm, the aircraft took a sharp turn. The TikToker shockingly recalls that there was only one oxygen mask dropping from the front of the plane.

Later, the pilot told passengers that the plane was experiencing ‘severe technical malfunctions.’ Thus, the aircraft had to make an emergency landing. As if that wasn’t frightening enough, the flight attendants told passengers to call their loved ones.

Things got worse as both of the plane’s engines overheated and shut down. At the same time, Kelly learned the emergency exit door he was sitting next to was not fully closed. Fortunately, the plane managed to land. Yet, it landed so quickly that its wheels exploded as it ground to a halt. Ambulances and fire trucks were already waiting to take control of the situation.

No, Airlines Do Not Try To Kill You

Earlier, Kelly debunked a very controversial conspiracy theory. A TikTok user @sugeneshin_ claimed her advice on plane crashes could ‘save your life and make you millions of dollars.’ She pledged that airlines do not try to save your life during plane crashes. On the contrary, airlines, she says, try to kill you so you could not sue them. However, as a survivor of a plane crash, Kelly knew better: it is a lie!

Hopefully, Kelly’s story will be the closest any of us will ever get to being in a plane crash. However, anything can happen – as it once strangely occurred, a plane collided with a car! Yet, as the statistics showed earlier, traveling is much safer these days – let us all applaud that
