TikToker Emily was left in tears when she arrived home after her wonderful weekend away. Her home was in need of a desperate clean-up after it had been completely trashed by the family member she had entrusted with looking after her house.
Most people tend to have house sitters to look after their homes and pets when they go on holiday. It is the new norm that helps to ease worries about being burgled, but for Emily this wasn’t the case. She ended up having an absolute nightmare! Her home was wrecked and her biggest problem ended up being the person she chose to house sit her home.

As much as we often tell people to make themselves feel at home when they look after our house, this house sitter took it a step too far. There appeared to be pen scribbles on a wooden table, nail varnish spilt on the worktop and rubbish left around the house. It is quite confusing because surely they do not treat their own home with this level of disrespect?
By capturing the footage of how her home was left, Emily was able to ensure that the house sitter couldn’t argue that the mess wasn’t that bad. Similarly, it put her in a good position because it meant that the house-sitter could not accuse her of overreacting. This experience has definitely put Emily off leaving her home in the care of a family member.
It is a shame to think that Emily could not trust her own family member to take care of her room. She is very upset about this incident and the consequences of it. According to UNILAD, Emily explained that there was a fallout between her family when she revealed what had happened on social media.
Why did she post this video on social media?
Originally, she posted the video because her other family members downplayed the incident and she felt like posting would help her voice be heard. She wanted to share her experience and by doing so, she found a group of people she could relate to and they have supported her during this hard time.
As a result of Emily’s experience, she has introduced new boundaries in her life and has learnt that it is important to be respected and heard. She offered some advice to those who listened and shared her story…
I would encourage others to remember it’s okay to put yourself first – just because someone doesn’t like a boundary doesn’t mean it’s not valid. It likely means that they benefited more from the boundary-less version of you.
