The southwest of Iceland holds a huge and majestic volcano, called Fagradalsfjall, and it erupted recently! The volcano’s current active state has interested many nearby to come and take a look, but one man, in particular, wanted to fit the volcano into his morning routine. Eiríkur Hilmarsson was the daring fellow who decided to throw a pan on top of the hot lava to cook some eggs and bacon.
Unfortunately, the volcano took the opportunity and consumed the tasty breakfast for itself – Hilmarsson’s food was soon overwhelmed by lava.
Check out the video below of this eruptive, yet delicious interaction.
Wow, what a time! Hilmarsson told RÚV this on the subject:
This is my bacon. Better to be damaged. I was going to feed the boys after the walk and it just seems to be getting damaged. These were the only supplies, so there are only sandwiches and water for the rest.
Hilmarsson playfully details his YouTube video with the following:
1 egg
200g bacon
Instructions:
- place pan on active volcano
- put food on
- wait and eat
Before ensuring his audience:
Attention – this stunt was performed under professional supervision and equipment.
You can’t really blame people for being excited and curious near the volcano – it is said to be its first eruption in 800 years! The volcano is 1,263 feet tall and the eruption was noted to be somewhat small, but still – what an impact!
Hopefully, everyone will stay safe when going to check out the active volcano! Would you consider making a snack if you had the safety precautions and right supplies with you? It definitely is a story to tell your grandkids someday – “When I was younger I cooked some breakfast on a volcano’s lava.” I feel like that would earn you some major cool points with the kids.
