A live-stream video captures a priest in Beirut running for cover as disaster strikes Lebanon’s capital city.
In the video, the priest is holding a live-stream service when the camera starts to shake and the lights behind him flicker off.
The priest continues for a moment, but when the walls behind him crumble, he runs for cover.
The camera falls to the ground, ending the video with a glimpse of shattered glass among the church’s floor.
Many were concerned with the priest’s well-being following the incident, but a woman claiming to know him has stated that he is doing fine.
This video was captured amidst the horrific explosion that teared through Lebanon’s capital city, Beirut, on August 4th.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Hassan Diab said the explosion was a result of 2,700 tons of ammonium nitrate, used to make explosives, being stored in a Beirut warehouse for nearly six years.
It is uncertain what particularly catalyzed the explosion, but some believe it erupted from a fire that broke out. Regardless, Prime Minister Diab claims it was completely “unacceptable” to be storing an abundance of explosives in a warehouse “without taking preventative measures” to ensure this explosion would never happen.
The consequences of the explosion are catastrophic, killing at least 137 people and injuring an additional 5,000, according to CNN. Further claims state that nearly 300,000 people have been made homeless as a result of the disaster.
