To combat harassment, Tinder introduces a new feature that asks users, “Are you sure?”

The feature relies on Artificial Intelligence to learn, detect, and engage against hurtful language.

PC Mag describes the AI “proactively intervenes to warn the sender their message may be offensive, asking them to pause before hitting send.”

Think of the AI as a guardian holding a user’s hand and asking them to mind their comments when necessary.

Could this best way to rid the online app of creepers and stalkers?

President of RAINN (Rape, Abuse, & Incest National Network) Scott Berkowitz commended Tinder’s efforts to create a safer online experience.

“By conveying their expectation for respectful communications, and letting users pause a moment to rethink a message that might offend, Tinder is engaging its community to create a safer platform.”

The feature, however, only helps filter what a person sends. This doesn’t change how a person feels, thinks, or interacts with a date.

Essentially, users may not identify if the person they message is truly respectful or just guided by an IA system.

The question remains: How will users distinguish between harassers and decent people?
