Minesweeper is a 16-bit PC game that had millions of people desperately hoping to avoid ‘mines’ as they blindly navigated across a square grid.
However, according to a recent viral TikTok, there is actually a strategic way to play the game.
TikToker user Paisley (@p.hops) has finally cracked the code to winning the game and decided to share it with her followers.
Throughout the video, Paisley shows that she is not only able to avoid the mines but also explain the strategy behind playing.
She states:
“I am about to make all your middle school dreams come true because I am going to tell you how to play this stupid game called mine something or other.”
Paisley explains that after you press a square, the number each square reveals indicates how many mines that square is touching.
Players are left to deduce which unchecked boxes contain mines based on how many mines they know are close by.
According to audience responses to Paisley’s video, loads of people were also unaware of this hack.
When the TikTok video spread to Twitter, one user wrote:
“I though the numbers were just there for vibes.”
Minesweeper is one of the most enduring yet maddening games on the PC, where players could access the game for free on Windows 95 or 98. Other similar games included Solitaire and Freecell.
Unlike Solitaire, which offers instructions within the game, as well as having well-known rules as a result of the physical version of the game, Minesweeper offers players little to no guidance.
