The AirPod craze hasn’t died down since the product’s release in 2016, but the practical issues that they present to consumers are forcing them to transform the product… into more traditional earphones.
As AirPods have continued their popular run, they have become something of a status symbol. Of course, the appeal for such a product is essentially that it does not limit mobility. Standard headphones or the regular Apple earbuds that are included with the purchase of a new iPhone introduce more physical restraint. The wireless nature of AirPods makes them ideal for working out and travel. However, they come with a steep price tag. Another part of the appeal is that they have become a marker of luxury.
While wireless headphones are ideal for movement, AirPods are so minimalistic that there is nothing connecting them whatsoever. This lack of connection presents its own issues. Namely, they have a tendency to slip out of peoples’ ears. So, according to Unilad, you can now purchase a chord to link your AirPods together. Which would… turn them into any other set of wireless bluetooth headphones.
The chord is sold in an array of colours and ranges in price from £25 to £60. It’s available through the Tapper store. The newest reiteration of AirPods are being sold by Apple for £249. The introduction of this chord and its looming popularity begs the question: Why are people really buying AirPods?
