On Monday, former Olympic wrestling gold medallist and coach, Dan Gable, received the Medal of Freedom for his sporting accolades from President Trump. Gables received the medal for his achievements in sports for both wrestling and swimming of which he was part of the US team at the 1972 Olympic Games held in Munich.

The Medal of Freedom, along with the Congressional Gold Medal, is the most prominent civilian award in the US and an incredibly affluent and important event. The Medal recognises tremendous success in the interests of the United States. However, the event seemed to end in an incredibly anti-climatic and unusual manner as President Trump left Gable standing, baffled, in the Oval Office after their speeches had finished, leaving no time for questions.

Gable can be seen standing in the middle of the Oval Office as he says ‘gone’ to Trump’s retreating figure. It seems that Gable, himself, can’t believe it, as he is left to receive congratulations from reporters and bystanders.

This event follows President Trump’s loss to Mr Joe Biden, in the recent US election, which he has continued to deny and discredit vote counts. President Trump has decreased the number of his public appearances since the outcome of the election as he proceeds to deny his loss.

It appears, from this video, that Trump was determined to prevent any opportunities for questioning as he swiftly escapes the ceremony without bidding farewell to Gable.

This encourages us to consider the most important question that seems to be at the front of everyone’s minds: will Mr Trump show up to the handover on 20th January and grant Joe Biden his rightful position, confirmed by the popular and electoral college vote, as the 46th President of the United States of America?
