A waterpark in the city of Wuhan saw thousands of guests over the weekend.
The Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park was packed with partygoers attending an electronic music festival. The outdoor park reopened in June as strict coronavirus restrictions were gradually lifted with authorities’ efforts to stop the viral spread.
According to MailOnline, the park is offering half-off price discounts for female visitors and has capped attendance at 50 percent of normal capacity.
Guests floated around on rubber dinghies, wearing life jackets, as performers DJed, used water jet packs, shot sparks into the crowd, and held group games. None of the partygoers appeared to be wearing masks.
This isn’t the first time a park has opened its doors to the world in the midst of the pandemic. On May 19, 3,000 tourists visited Wuhan’s largest theme park, Happy Valley Wuhan, on the first day it opened, with the condition guests could prove they weren’t sick. A temperature screening was conducted, and masks were enforced.
The regional government of Wuhan has opened dozens of tourism destinations now that local infection rates have lowered. Hotels and travel agencies are also offering free activities and discounts. This has led to a flood of people into the region, breaking all kinds of social distancing rules. The park maintains that all legal limits were followed despite the crowds of guests.
