People want to rename Ronald Reagan Airport after Jojo Siwa.
A petition on change.org has amassed nearly 73,000 signatures in support of changing the airport’s name to honor Jojo. Washington National Airport was named after Reagan in 1998—makes sense that it’s time for a rebrand, right?
According to the site, if the petition reaches 75,000 signatures it will be one of the top signed on change.org. Jojo has also announced that having her own airport would be “the sickest thing ever,” she told TMZ.
Though the petition gives no explicit explanation for wanting to change the name of the airport, it does ask why Reagan should get an airport as a ‘war criminal.’
His run in office in 1981 was not without controversy. He supported Apartheid in South Africa. Makes sense why some might not want to be associated with that.
Though Jojo admitted she does not know much about Reagan’s presidency, and does not understand the statement being made, she is in support. She would be a much less problematic choice for the name.
The airport has yet to respond to the petition, so who knows whether things will really change.
Only time will tell.
