For many young adults one of the biggest rites of passage occurs when they leave the nest and head off to college for the first time. For eighteen years, their parents have cared for them and prepared them for the world. Then, suddenly, senior year in high school is here and it’s filled with proms, graduation ceremonies and those special moments when treasured friends are with you every day. It’s also a time when hopes and dreams begin to become real. Once you take the SAT or ACT and begin applying to undergraduate programs, a whole new world starts to unfold. Often our time in college goes by quickly and all too soon we find ourselves having to get a job we may not really love. There’s a better approach, a way to use your four years in college as the perfect time to create your ideal future in an innovative, non-traditional way.
Discover Your Passion and Skills
If you would like to use your next four years at university as a time to make a quantum-level improvement in your life, the first thing you need to do is to discover your true passion. So many times, people ask what your major is, when they should be asking what your magic is. You need to discover what fills you with energy, with fire and what you would love to wake up each day doing. Fortunately, college gives us plenty of time for self-reflection and exploration. Instead of having some forty hours of classes a week like high school, you’ll only be in the classroom or lecture hall for around twelve and a half hours a week. With all the newfound free time, spend time each week really understanding what you love to do and what your mad skills are. This process of discovery will set you on the right path for years to come.
Customise Your Education and Get the Training You Need
When you enroll in an undergraduate program, you’ll typically take about five classes a semester. You are assigned basic courses and then in the future you’ll select a major with some ten courses or so. Don’t let them rope you into a rote version of what you need. There are incredible courses to explore and you should sign up for all the classes that call to you, fuel your passion and build your skills. Use college as your custom training ground and start building your most powerful life. University programs can be expensive and students often try to work a lot of hours during school to pay for things. Instead of working endless shifts, it’s a far better idea to take out private student loans that let you easily pay for your education. These loans are offered by banks, financial institutions and credit unions. If your parents cosign, then you will be able to easily qualify for the funding you need.
Create an Entrepreneurial Venture
While you do have a lot of studying in college and papers to write, you also have a lot of free time each week. If you would like to create a wonderful life for yourself and your future family, the best thing you can do is to use your free time to create an entrepreneurial venture. Then when you graduate, instead of having to get a job that is mundane and destroys your spirit you’ll be able to move into a full-time role as the owner of your own business. When you talk to people who have developed profitable web sites, blogging ventures and innovative businesses they’ll all tell you that a startup takes some time to grow. If you create your venture during your college years, it will be fully operational and profitable by the time you are ready to graduate. With the right idea and smart effort, you’ll be making far more money than the average graduate and will set yourself on the path to financial freedom.
