In recent times, finding toilet paper and many other essentials in stores has been made near impossible. We have all heard of these instances of hoarding and price gouging rapidly shrinking inventory of these items. Luckily, one mom has found a way to avoid the shops and save on toilet paper.
Instead of going through the hassle of finding this commodity out in the wild, one facebook mom has devised a new method of saving toilet paper with one simple step. Squishing it. That’s right, the creator of this money-saving tactic comes from the Facebook group, “Mums Who Budget and Save.”
The group itself appears to be exclusively for mothers in Australia sharing their tips and tricks to shopping in the wake of COVID-19. As such I’m unable to access the original post. Luckily, This article, by Paige Holland, has cited the original post as including this image along with saying,
“Going through toilet paper faster than usual?
“Try squashing the roll – so it doesn’t spin so quickly and then not as much will be pulled off.”
Now, admittedly in seeing this I became skeptical. So I decided to try this ‘life hack’ out for myself. In these images before and after the application of the hack, you’ll notice it looks exactly how you’d expect.
Pulling the paper from the roll was definitely a more tedious task. It no longer rolled smoothly but instead in stiff clunky movements. This might save some money if you have children who may be easily put off by the first sign of difficulty however to an adult this becomes just hassle in the restroom.
Again, this is a life hack very much for parents. So if you have little ones running around, using up all of your precious toilet paper, maybe it’s time to squash. If not this hack isn’t for you, just as it isn’t for me.
