The term detox is usually associated with a diet that facilitates the elimination of harmful toxins from the body. However, it is not confined to the body alone as you can detox the skin as well. Since your skin bears the brunt of exposure to environmental pollution and harsh sunlight, it deserves to be detoxified every now and then. A proper detoxification routine deep cleanses your skin and leaves it looking fresh, radiant and youthful, which gives you all the more reasons to add it to your skincare regimen.

Typically, skin detox is something that needs to be personalized because it depends on the type and condition of your skin. A holistic approach works well because it aims to cleanse you from within and outside; so ideally, you should combine skin detox with a detox diet. The best way to do it is naturally because it neither involves the use of expensive products nor has any side effects. Here are some ways in which you can detoxify your skin naturally.

Use a mud mask

Mud masks are really effective when it comes to deep cleansing because they can pull out the impurities, unclog the pores and revitalize the skin. Prepare a thick mask and apply it for at least 15 minutes. Follow with a steam bath so that the ingredients are able to work properly. Rinse off after 5 minutes of exposure to the steam and experience the fresh and pure feeling.

Besides getting rid of the deep-seated toxins, it is also important to remove the superficial dead cells. Exfoliation makes an ideal method for eliminating these dead cells that lie on your skin’s surface. Try using a gentle exfoliating scrub twice a week and you will definitely notice the difference. You can try natural ingredients like sugar, salt, oats, apples and citrus fruits for exfoliating naturally. Dry brushing is also a helpful way for clearing away impurities and dead cells from the skin.

Try a gentle cleanser

Another effective measure to deep cleanse and detoxify your skin is by using a gentle cleanser. Lilly Alder from says that when choosing a facial cleanser, you should look for one with natural botanicals that will nourish the skin instead of stripping away its natural oils. Such a product can eliminate all the toxins and pollutants gently while leaving your skin soft, supple and clean.

Drink more water

The significance of skincare products and methods cannot be overemphasized. At the same time, you cannot ignore the importance of detoxifying from within. Drinking more water is the easiest and best thing that you can do to accelerate the detoxification process. Furthermore, it keeps you hydrated which is essential for the elasticity and suppleness of the skin. Start your day with a glass of warm water with a dash of lemon juice added to it. Make it a point to have at least 10-12 glasses of water throughout the day.

Avoid junk completely

Your skin replicates what you eat and cutting down on junk will definitely show on your skin. Processed foods, unhealthy fats, and high-sugar foods contribute to the toxin buildup within the body, which has a negative impact on your skin as well. Ditch the unhealthy diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy and nuts and you will witness a huge difference in the way you look and feel.

Sip herbal tea

Beyond healthy food and adequate water, your body needs support for detoxification. Herbs such as ginger, dandelion, nettle and green tea can do wonders for cleansing from within and outside. So if you want your skin to look pure and radiant, switch from high-sugar drinks to healthy herbal concoctions. Two cups a day will bring the desired benefits.

Sweat it out

Sweating is an excellent way to get rid of the toxins from your skin and body. Get moving and enjoy your favorite exercise to stimulate the sweat glands and push out the impurities. Following a proper exercise routine is important to keep the detox mode on. Exercising relieves stress, which is another factor that you need to eliminate for skin health.

Get enough sleep

Getting plenty of sleep is very important for your skin because this is the time when the cells repair and rejuvenate themselves. Rejuvenation plays a vital role in detox as well. Make it a habit to get at least seven to eight hours of sleep every night to get your body and skin on track.

When it comes to skin detox, nothing works as well as natural. Try integrating these methods in your daily routine and you will definitely notice a significant difference sooner than you expect!
