When luxury hotel brand Airelles secured rights to Le Grand Contrôle on the grounds of Palace of Versailles, many in the luxury travel world were very interested. The Airelles brand has super-lux hotels in places like Saint-Tropez, Gordes and Courchevel, just to name a few. But being able to literally sleep like royalty is something no other hotel chain can offer.
The history of Versailles is a long and, at times, troubling story. Once the very center of the French court, the palace had always screamed luxury and extravagance. Originally used as a hunting lodge and private residence for King Louis XIII, Versailles underwent many updates and transformations to make it what it is today.
More often than not, when one hears the name Versailles thoughts of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI losing their heads during the French Revolution come to mind. But Airelles is aiming to change all that!
Le Grand Contrôle, located on the grounds of Versailles, was painstakingly restored and offers guests a never before seen look into the Palace of Versailles. The hotel will offer access to over 2,000 acres of gardens and the ability to explore the grand halls and apartments of the palace. There are 14 different themed rooms, all with furnishings of the period, a dedicated butler, and almost whatever else the heart desires.
To live like royalty means you will have to pay quite the pretty penny for it all. Some rooms begin at £1,700 and go all the way up to £2,500 per night and you have to book for at least two nights! Sounds like some of us are going to have to save up for the privilege to sleep like royalty.
Would you want to spend the cash to stay at the Palace of Versailles or would you rather spend your money elsewhere? We want to know what you think, so let us know in the comments. And from all of us at TrillI!: stay safe as things begin to reopen, wear a mask, get your vaccine when you can, and please be nice to your Starbie’s baristas.
