CEO Edward St. John surprised his employees this holiday season with a $10 million bonus. How’s that for boss of the year?
The holiday party hosted by Edward St. John, the founder and chairman of St. John Properties, was celebrating more than the past year. They were also celebrating development of 20 million square feet of office, retail, warehouse and other spaces across the United States. St. John thought it would take 40 years to fulfill this goal, but instead it only took 14.
Due to the companies’ success, St. John decided to give them the ultimate holiday bonus. $10 million was split among 198 employees, depending on how long they had been with St. John Properties. Still, the average employee returned from the party $50,000 richer.
His employees had no idea about the bonus, and their joy is enough to melt your Grinchy heart.
“I wanted to celebrate it and make it meaningful for the people who did it,” St. John said. “I steer the boat, but they are the ones that run the boat.”
For many, this amount was life-changing, giving them relief from looming bills from more than just the holiday season.
