Who doesn’t love a delectable and delicious slice of rum cake? It is usually a crowd favorite, especially in the holiday seasons. A classic rum cake is a great piece of dessert in any family get together and is undoubtedly a favorite in any household.

My mom used to make this for all of the holidays and I could never get enough!

The secret to a succulent rum cake is a butter rum glaze. This glaze just escalates the taste of your cake to a whole new level and trust me once you serve this, the guests are going to be coming up for a second slice without any doubt. The best part is it is super easy to make. Let’s have a look at the detailed recipe of a classic golden rum cake.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 Pack yellow cake mix
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cups vegetable oil
  • ½ cups water
  • 1 pack vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 cup  walnuts (chopped)
  • ½ cup dark rum

For the Glaze

  • ½  cup dark rum
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter

Directions

Set your oven and preheat it to 325 degrees F. Grease a 10-inch bundt pan and flour it as well. Put some walnuts at the bottom of the pan.

In a large mixing bowl, pour in the pudding and cake mixes, add the eggs followed by half a cup of water and half cup rum and give a blend so that everything mixes up well.

Mix all the ingredients so that there are no lumps or bumps as that will not let the cake bake evenly in the oven. Once you have mixed it finely, pour the mixture into the bundt pan and put it in the oven to bake for 1 hour.

Meanwhile, prepare the glaze. For the glaze, add butter, water, and sugar in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil for at least 5 minutes.

Turn the heat down, add the dark rum in the mixture and stir well. Cook for another 5 minutes then remove from the heat and set aside.

After an hour, insert a toothpick in the cake and check if it slides out clean. Let the cake sit and rest an hour in the bundt pan before you take it out. Once cooled, flip the cake onto a plate and pour the butter rum glaze on the cake.

Let the cake soak and absorb in all the glaze and then you are ready to cut a slice and enjoy.
