This American mince pie recipe has people questioning whether they even taste tested it before posting.
A social media post has gone viral this week shedding light on an American website that seems to have confused the British mince pie with something very different.
The recipe posted on the American website included ‘255g of mincemeat, homemade or store-bought’- and by that they really do mean beef mincemeat. Yum.
It soon found its way to twitter, where Luke Bailey from London wrote:
‘Utterly obsessed with this American site that has confused mince with mincemeat, and created this abomination,’
Attached to his tweet were the questionable photos included in the recipe. They show the pie in the process of being made, and give a great close up of the mince meat stuffed into the pastry.
People are finding the tweet hilarious; it has almost 14,000 retweets so far and a whopping 76,000 likes.
The tweet gained so much momentum that it appears to have gotten back to the website itself, with people noticing that the recipe was amended on the site shortly after. So if you were hoping to make this as your Christmas Day speciality you might struggle!
There have been an array of different responses to the post on social media, but some of the most popular are those comparing the dish to one made in the Friends TV series by Rachel.
She accidentally creates a twist on a traditional dessert in a similar way. Her trifle for Monica’s Thanksgiving dinner includes layers of beef in between the sweet fillings.
However, others are questioning the authenticity of the site, with many claiming that the language used in the recipe is not in line with how they believe American people speak.
Either way, we think we’ll stick to the traditional sweet and fruity recipe for now!
