Upon spending 12 days on the International Space Station, a tourist brought with him something very disturbing: the ashes of James Doohan.

James Doohan was widely known for his role on the hit television series ‘Star Trek’ as Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott.

Back in 2008, Richard Garriott, one of the first tourists to be able to travel to the ISS, hide James Doohan’s remains under the Columbus module where they still are today, according to a new reporting by the Times of London.

“It was completely clandestine.”

Apparently, his family was very ‘pleased’ that the ashes made it up there but, “We were all disappointed we didn’t get to talk about it publicly for so long. Now enough time has passed that we can.”

Oddly enough, this was not the only attempt to fly James Doohan’s remains into space. According to The Verge, in 2008 a failed attempt to carry a portion of his ashes was made by SpaceX Falcon 1 just minutes into launch,

Later in 2012, SpaceX Falcon 9 made it to into space carrying a different portion of his ashes.

“What [Garriott] did was touching — it meant so much to me, so much to my family and it would have meant so much to my dad.”
