Joining 2022’s summer blockbuster season, Jordan Peele is set to return with his latest horror film Nope, starring Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer.

Since releasing its first teaser back in late February, Nope’s premise has been shrouded in mystery. Last Thursday, Universal dropped its final trailer, finally revealing the film’s central conceit: aliens.

In the new trailer, Kaluuya claims he saw “something above the clouds,” while Palmer wonders if what he saw killed their relative Pops, a man we see fall off a horse. Soon after, we discover a giant saucer floating above the clouds, while Palmer yells to Kaluuya to run. As the trailer continues, it isn’t long before Palmer and Kaluuya plan to capture the UFO on film.

In addition to Palmer and Kaluuya, the film co-stars Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead, Minari); Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria, Unpregnant); Brandon Perea (The OA); Keith David (They Live, Greenleaf); Donna Mills (General Hospital, Knots Landing), Andrew Patrick Ralston (Bones, Lethal Weapon); and Michael Wincott (Westworld, 24: Live Another Day).

Nope is set to premiere on July 22nd, exclusively in movie theaters. No streaming debut has been announced; however, Universal promises Nope will be featured on Peacock.

Don’t look up

With films like Get Out and Us, Peele is no stranger to tackling social issues. Known to keep his films close to his chest, Peele hinted to Variety back in 2017 that he would like his films to tackle a different monster.

“I wanna stay in the genre. While I was developing [Get Out] I was also simultaneously developing four other projects that I call social thrillers. Each one is meant to deal with a different human demon; a different monster that sort of lurks underneath the way that we interact with one another as human beings. So I hope to soon direct another one of these social thrillers—it’s not gonna be about race, it’ll be about something else, but it’s gonna be very cinematic and fun.”
