I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, TV is our escape. Whether it’s something small that only a few will know or a pandemic with no end in sight, TV is a comfort. Visual comfort if you will, which goes nicely with our favorite comfort foods. There are always new shows streaming as well as classics, the ones that we’ve all seen many times but never grow tired of. Reboots of shows have gained popularity in recent years, some have lasted for a few seasons, some were very disappointing. Doctor Who is one of the shows that has stood the test of time, having many different doctors host the show.
Whoopi Goldberg has recently spoken out about how she would like to become the first American Doctor Who. Actually, she wanted to be the first American female Doctor Who but the female part will not get to come true. Jodie Whittaker became the first female doctor for a little while now. She announced though that she will be stepping away as the famed doctor after the upcoming season. I think Whoopi Goldberg would be a good choice, bringing a new spin to the show.
Whoopi Really Wants The Gig!
Whoopi goes one to talk about how she tried to approach the producers of the show to be considered for the show.
“We don’t have a Doctor Who. We don’t have that character who is traveling through dimension and time, and being an observer - sometimes a hindrance, sometimes a help. The idea of that just so made me happy. They were like, ”Um, no’, So I was like, ‘OK, I’m cool. I understand'”
Whoopi Goldberg
Seems like BBC kind of blew her off, which is super rude. At least give a reason, not just a no. I don’t think that will deter her though, she’ll keep trying until she gets the part. Anything is possible, but I think she deserves a chance to show what she can bring to the show. Sure, it will be different but she loves the show and she will step into the role with respect and admiration for the legacy of it. Maybe someday Whoopi!
