My Unorthodox Life is a Reality television series that centers on Julia Haart, the CEO of a modeling agency and fashion company and a former ultra-Orthodox Jew, as Haart and her family acculturate to their new non-religious lifestyle in Manhattan.
Haart is a mother of four and grew up in an ultra-Orthodox Jewish community in Monsey, New York. She left in November of 2012 when she was 42 years old. Through the first season, we saw Haart as she leads by example to help her children by reconciling the two conflicting cultures of their orthodox upbringings and the modern world.
The show made its debut on July 14, 2021, and was renewed for another run. The upcoming season will hit the OTT platform on December 2, 2022. The show is said to be concluded in nine hour-long episodes. The trailer of the show hint that glitz and heartbreak are on the platter for Julia and the rest of her family.
In season one, we were introduced to the former orthodox Jewish wife turned CEO of a top modeling agency, but in the second season, the table turned. This time we will see how she struggles to continue her journey as she is removed as the CEO of Elite and files for divorce from Silvio Scaglia.
The series also concentrates on Haart’s four children, Batsheva, Shlomo, Miriam, and Aron.
The first season ended with nine episodes and received positive responses from the viewers, and the plot was remarked to be “wildly compelling” by Jenny Singer. Despite this, Articles published in Orthodox media outlets were heavily critical of the perceived anti-Orthodox premises of the show.
The show has been part of many controversies during its initial run. Haart opened up about the flaws in her society and talked about Suicide and how Suicide is taboo. Her struggles were explained while she managed her personal and professional life and became the CEO and co-owner of the modeling agency Elite World Group from being a housewife.
