57 years, 24 films and 6 Bonds later and we are still as intrigued to know who will be the next 007.
Cillian Murphy, the Irish actor from Peaky Blinders is the latest to be tied to the role. He previously played the role of a villain in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins so it will be an interesting change of pace for Murphy to play the hero. However, this has caused some hesitancy over his casting.
Previously, Idris Elba has been linked to take on the role of 007. Although, before any recasting, Daniel Craig is set to appear one last time in the role, in Bond 25. This is due to be released in 2020 and is the 25th film featuring the iconic character.
Bets are currently on for Murphy to take over the role from Craig. Honestly, if you look at an original drawing of Bond from author and creator Ian Fleming and Cillian side by side, it is quite uncanny.
Murphy would be the second Irishman to play Bond after Pierce Brosnan. Although, we know that Cillian can put on a pretty good Brummie accent, so a Queens-English one should be no problem. It really is an iconic role, and whoever takes it over will have to be prepared.
