DC has revealed the latest actor to play the Joker, in a new superhero movie.

We are all familiar with the superhero movies doing the rounds lately. But some of you might not be aware of the most unlikely twosome releasing a DC Comics feature. Martin Scorsese and Todd Phillips have paired up to bring you a NEW Joker origins movie.

While Jack Gyllenhaal and Leonardo DiCaprio have been at the center of rumors as to who will be playing the lead role, a new name has just been thrown into the mix.

Variety reports that Joaquin Phoenix has been in talks discussing his future with Warner Bros pictures.

Debuting in the comedy-drama film Parenthood, and later most notable for his role in  Gladiator, in which he was nominated for the Academy Award for best sporting actor, Phoenix has been in the film scene for most of his life.

Sources say that 43-year-old, Phoenix has already accepted the role and official negotiations are to begin soon, however, there has yet to be any public confirmation from the studio.

Don’t get too excited, however, as there is still a long way to go before the project starts production.

The film is said to be standalone, making the feature completely separate from the established DC cinematic universe, consisting of Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman and Justice League.

Completely different from Jared Leto’s Joker, the film will retrace the origins of the villain in 1980’s Gotham City.
Don’t fret, we will be seeing more of Jared Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad 2, the joker and Harley Quinn spinoff and potentially even the Gotham Sirens (DC’s all-female villain movie).

Phoenix will be joining the likes of Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger and Jared Leto all to have played this iconic character (no pressure!!)

We’re looking forward to seeing what he’s going to bring to the role.
