A few months ago, there was an update regarding Joss Whedon planning a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The update probably wasn’t accurate.
In Hollywood, the T.V. series usually stall and peter out over time. Sometimes they get pretty far until the networks decide to pull the plug. HBO once shot a whole pilot for a Game of Thrones prequel, but in the end moment, they chose not to air it.
The upcoming reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer failed to make its way up there. The executive producer Gail Berman declared on THR’s T.V.’s Top 5 podcast that it’s “on pause.”
She said, “industry speak for purgatory, make of that what you will.”
It probably means that the project is dead. The idea of a Buffy reboot began to circulate in 2018. Joss Whedon, the original series creator, was developing the concept, and Monica Owusu-Breen was even signed on as showrunner
The A.V. Club points out that Owusu-Breen has joined the writer’s room of the new Percy Jackson series at Disney+. This is not the thing someone would do if they had a show of their own to run. So, it’s safe to say that Buffy isn’t going to make a comeback anytime soon.
