Entergalactic, by Kid Cudi, is a visually captivating animated love story that blends romance, art, and music.

Two years ago, the most amazing piece of art came about. The animation, the storyline, the romance and the most perfect soundtrack are what make ‘Entergalactic‘ next on your watchlist—and let me tell you why!

What is it about?

Entergalactic is an animated musical film created by the one and only Kid Cudi (Scott Mescudi) who serves as writer and executive producer . This film was brought  to us alongside his album with the same name as the movie, which dropped around the same time,  in September 2022. It also pays beautiful homage to the late Virgil Abloh and his creative and inspiring spirit. Abloh was actually the costume designer for the movie, and his designs are part of what makes Entergalactic so astonishing. The clothes feel real—something any of us could wear any day—and they fit perfectly within the story.  The main character’s wardrobe, especially, perfectely portrays what we get from him, a laid-back, confident and stylish character.

This movie’s cast is  composed by exciting names that feel like were randomly selected and decided to come together to take part in something great. Besides Kid Cudi who voices Jabari(our main character) it features Jessica Williams as Meadow and other unforgettable names such as Timotheé Chalamet, Ty Dolla $ign, Jaden smith and Vanessa Hudgens! All of their characters look exactly like them which brings them to life. You can feel the chemistry between their voices all throughout the movie.

The Plot

The story follows Jabari, a young and talented comic artist living in New York City. We accompany him on his journey through self-discovery, love, professional life, and personal growth.  He learns how to let go from the past to move forward in life, he laughs, he parties hard and gives his all to his work. In  the midst of it all he meets Meadow, his neighbour  and-now- the girl of his dreams, literally.  They first encounter is awkward and sweet in every way possible and it sets the tone for their relationship.

Together they embark on this journey of defining their relationship – or better yet, their then ‘situationship‘ as my generation would call it. Along the way, they discover new things  about themselves. These two learn to accept and give  love, communicate their feelings, and define their relationship with each other. Their connection feels real, it has ups, it has downs and it’s easily relatable to anyone navigating modern love.

A Journey of Love and Self Discovery

One thing that makes this movie stand out is how Meadow and Jabari meet. They just so happened to be living next to each other. It’s funny because,  throughout the movie,  a dating app is heavily promoted. Everyone in the city seems to have engaged with it,  except for these two. This  makes the movie so much more impactful because you get to see the beauty of having an instant, organic connection with someone. When the world and society pressure  us to chase love through  dating apps, profiles  and algorithms so we as individuals don’t fall behind in this ‘love race’ for a taste of fulfilment  and societal merit and acceptance. Entergalactic reminds us of the magic of spontaneous, real-life encounters.

Watching Meadow and Jabari reminded me that meeting someone naturally, in the most unexpected way, is still possible. Their story inspires hope for those who are tired of swiping left and right, looking for something deeper.

Soundtrack

Along with this beautiful storyline, the soundtrack is beautifully designed to provide an immersive experience. You feel when they fall in love, when they are at their highest (literally), and at their lowest. The music reflects the characters’ complex emotions perfectly. Kid Cudi’s creative vision shines through. It’s like the soundtrack is another character, narrating the story in its own way, because if you listen closely, you’ll notice how the lyrics align with the characters’ journeys and emotional rollercoasters.

Celebrating Black Love: A New Narrative

Entergalactic  is also a fresh representation of Black love in media. Often, Black love is portrayed as toxic, violent, struggled, hard, hurtful and never just… love. Black people are rarely depicted loving each other without a deeper struggle; the narrative is frequently rooted in generational trauma, absent family members, cheaters, and so on. It’s exhausting to say the least.

This  movie, however,  depicts pure and soft love. It makes you wonder and believe  that one day you too can have a simple love. One day you too can learn how to love, you too can be loved. Seeing Jabari and Meadow navigate their feelings, flaws, and fears without unnecessary drama is refreshing and empowering. No trauma, no toxicity- just two people figuring things out together. It’s a reminder that love doesn’t have to hurt to be real and it most certainly doesn’t have to be overcomplicated and hard, every step of the way.

Love, Patience, And Hope Along With Striking Visuals

For me, as a Black 20-year-old woman who wishes to steer away from struggled love, dating apps, and the current state of dating culture, Entergalactic hits home. This movie helps me understand that the right person is out there and that their love will find me when I least expect it. And when it does, it will be worth the wait! This film’s a reminder that genuine connections can still be real, and I carry that with me everyday.

Visually, the movie is stunning. The animation captures the vibrancy of New York City while reflecting the characters’ emotions and artistic spirits. The art style feels modern yet timeless, and every scene is a feast for the eyes. It’s not just a film; it’s a masterpiece of visual storytelling. Every detail feels intentional and they  don’t just support the story—they elevate it.

Representation for Young Creatives and a Lesson for Everyone

Additionally, Entergalactic doesn’t shy away from addressing the challenges faced by young creatives. Whether it’s Meadow’s struggles to establish herself as a photographer or Jabari’s imposter syndrome as a comic artist, their experiences feel real and relatable. They’re navigating careers, relationships, and self-discovery all at once—a balancing act many of us know all too well. Seeing them succeed despite their challenges is inspiring, especially for anyone pursuing a creative path.

This movie is not just about finding love with someone else; it’s also about learning to love yourself and trust your journey. Jabari’s growth from a reluctant romantic to someone who embraces his feelings is as inspiring as Meadow’s confidence in staying true to herself. Watching their individual journeys unfold alongside their love story is what makes this film so special.

For the Dreamers and Romantics Out There

If you too struggle with believing that your turn is closer than you’ve ever imagined and that your great love is worth the wait  this movie is for you. If you’ve ever felt like online dating isn’t for you, contrary to what our chronically online society thinks, this movie will reassure you that authentic, meaningful connections are still possible.

This movie isn’t just entertainment—it’s a vibe. It’s the kind of film that makes you want to sit back, reflect, and maybe even cry a little. Watching it will make you believe in  real love again, it will make you  feel like falling  in love  is for you too and that you deserve to be loved as you are, with your flaws, with your personality and without changing a thing.

So do watch it and see how your perception of love and the way you go about it, might have been wrong this whole time. You are perfect for someone as you are just like someone might be perfect for you as they are.

And if this lengthy article wasn’t enough for you to watch this movie just pop in to take  a look at Jabari’s sneaker game….it goes crazy!
