Netflix is Creating a Documentary About Joe Exotic and His Weird Hitman Murder Plot

The next big Netflix true-crime show.

A few weeks ago, Joe Exotic, real name Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, who was known for owning the largest private tiger park in Oklahoma, and consequently America, was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison after hiring a hitman to take out a rival. The rival had been fellow wild cat enthusiast Carole Baskin, the founder of Big Cat Rescue Wildlife Sanctuary.

Baskin was critical of how Exotic would mass breed tigers, separate cubs from their mothers, using them as photo props. The self-proclaimed “Tiger King” was found guilty by the jury for hiring hitmen twice to kill Baskin who also successfully sued him for more than $1 million for trademark infringement and other civil wrongs. His other infractions included killing five tigers with a shotgun, illegally selling tiger cubs, and falsifying documents to facilitate the sale of tigers, lions, and lemurs.

Joe Exotic, who had appeared before in a documentary by Louis Theroux, is now once again the subject of another documentary. Netflix is creating a docu-series that is centered around the bizarre situation concerning the entire murder plot. The series is to be directed by the executive director of “FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened,” and will most likely come out within the next three years.
