Welcome to 2020 everyone! A new decade, a new set of opportunities and memories to be made. With the new year just starting, award season has begun again and lineups for music festivals have been announced. The Coachella 2020 lineup was released a few days ago and Rage Against The Machine will be the headliners for the first two nights of each weekend.
According to a source at sickchirpse.com, Rage Against The Machine introduced the music world to a new genre and a new style of guitar playing. The writer is hopeful that with this announcement, they will “be tempted to jaunt over to Europe for some shows” (sickchirpse.com 1). Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, they’re just doing Coachella, not announcing a world tour. But I guess its possible if these performances do well and the demand for them in concert is there again after all these years it could happen.
I do wish that Coachella and similar music festivals did make this less of a celebrity wild weekend and more for people who just want to have a good time and enjoy their favorite artists. Social media and the news coverage of Coachella fill up with what celebrities were there, what they were wearing, what they were doing, them cheating on significant others, or just getting drunk and going wild. Yes, celebrities are people too and are fans of music but I don’t really care that they are there and getting all of the VIP experiences. I’d rather see coverage of the acts, the food, the activities, and so on. But I guess that’s not really what everyone wants to see.
Is Coachella The Best Music Event of 2020?
In my opinion, this is one of the weaker lineups for Coachella. In years past, there have been better acts that I was wishing I could go see. Some of the other acts that are worth seeing are: “Charli XCX, Lil Was X, Carly Rae Jepsen, Run The Jewels, Fatboy Slim and Disclosure” (sickchirpse.com 1). Every year can’t top the previous year all the time but this is the beginning of a new decade so to me the Coachella organizers didn’t really put in their best effort or take that into serious consideration. Oh well, I guess there’s always hope for next year! Although, Bottlerock up in Napa, California does have a better lineup so that maybe the better event to put your money towards this year.
Good Luck To Them
Not being a fan of their style of music, I’m not jumping up and down at this announcement. I did give their music a listen though. I can appreciate their guitar playing and their lyrics have messages within them that people can relate to. Music is a great way for those who have the spotlight to use it in a positive way. Sing about issues that mean something to their fans, talk about their stories because there are others out there suffering or going through what they’ve gone through. When music does this, connecting with people, that is when it is truly successful. So when a band is headlining a music festival that are stilling doing this, even after breaking up years ago, they deserve to be in that spot, singing to their fans.
