Avengers: Endgame delivers the action, drama and closure within it’s three-hour run.

In the first half an hour of the movie, the Russo Brother’s deliver the death of Thanos and the first openly gay Marvel Character. During a group therapy session with Captain America the nameless character, played by co-director Joe Russo, talks about openly weeping on a date because of the loss of their partners. It’s easy to miss, but Russo stresses the “he” when referring to his date.

The minimal screen time and minor role angered many LGBT community who are calling for more representation. Russo also spoke about representation.

In in interview with Deadline, Joe said this:

“Representation is really important. It was important to us as we did four of these films, we wanted a gay character somewhere in them. We felt it was important that one of us play him, to ensure the integrity and show it is so important to the filmmakers that one of us is representing that. It is a perfect time because one of the things that is compelling about the Marvel Universe moving forward is its focus on diversity.”

Here is some of the backlash on social media.

Even new Marvel star Brie Larson say the Franchise needs more LGBT representation.

This seems to be the start of more diverse characters in the Marvel Universe.
