Canada Man Creates “Jetpack” Backpack to Take Ice Skating to the Next Level

Now if only this could help get through traffic in cars…

We’ve made it to the middle of January already! Is everyone surviving so far? I hope so. 2021 seemed like there was a lot to hope for and be positive for, and in some ways there is, but 2020 left quite an impact. We all still need to keep doing our part to slow the spread and get vaccinated when it is available. On the lighter side, 2020 did bring out people’s creativity. Being at home more and getting bored with that, some chose to make the most of it and spend their time creating things, trying new things, anything to pass the time. One Canadian man did just that.

Brydon Gibson from Ottawa Canada built his own motorized backpack so that he could ice skate across the frozen lakes at greater speed and have some fun with it. It can go up to 25 mph which seems a little fast for ice skating but I guess in the name of fun, that’s most important.

Gibson talks about what the motor is made out of and how COVID inspired him to build this:

“I got my hands on some weed whacker motors and I figured strapping one on my back and making skating a little bit lazier would [be] a good idea. I was actually getting a little scared at one point because I was going a little too fast. I was actually getting a little scared at one point because I was going a little too fast. Spare time with COVID, [and] not seeing anyone? I’m doing this instead. Bigger propeller, more thrust, more speed, more fun. This is what I do. This is my life.”

If he intends on really adding more speed, I suggest he makes a better way to stop because he says that the brakes on there now are not the best. Sounds like he’s committed to creating more inventions and improving this one. Can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
