If you didn’t realise that Billie Eilish, wasn’t actually Billie Eilish’s real name, after all, you can be forgiven. Her real name is just slightly different from her stage name.

The 19-year-old pop sensation, responsible for hits like Ocean Eyes and the Bond theme tune No Time To Die, legal name isn’t actually Billie Eilish. Eilish is actually one of her three middle names, along with Pirate and Baird. pretty unique, right? And the singer’s surname is actually O’Connell.

So, just to clarify, that’s Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell…

The singer was supposedly meant to just have Pirate as her middle name, but her uncle didn’t approve because of the negative connotation. If only he’d known the love sea shanties would get in the future, huh.

In an interview with the BBC back in 2017 when Eilish was just starting to become famous, she was asked why she went by that name and not O’Connell.

“It is my middle name. So I’m Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell. Pretty weird, right? Pirate was going to be my middle name, but then my uncle had a problem with because pirates are bad. Then Baird is my mom’s name.”

She shared the article to her official Facebook page in 2017, with the caption “Talked about my weird middle name with the BBC news. Thank u guys.”

Many fans commented underneath to show appreciation for her unusual name, with one saying: “Love u Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell. So weird & cool at the same time.”

Tagging a friend, someone else pointed out: “Her middle name is pirate’s beard, go read this I really like it lol.”

It sorta raises questions at to what her older brother Finneas, middle names could possibly be…

Eilish, who adopted a pitbull called Shark (sticking with the nautical theme,) last year, is sharing elements of her life in her new documentary The World’s A Little Blurry. The documentary will be released theatrically and on Apple TV+ later this month.
