And he’s still not sure about masks.

On July 29, Republican Representative from Texas Louie Gohmert tested positive for Covid-19. He is apparently asymptomatic.

In June, Gohmert discussed his refusal to wear a mask with CNN, saying, “I don’t have the coronavirus, turns out as of yesterday I’ve never had it. But if I get it, you’ll never see me without a mask.”

In a Twitter video, Gohmert used his positive test to question the efficacy of masks in preventing transmission of coronavirus.

“Look, I’ve worn a mask more the last week or two than I have the whole last four months. And I was wearing my mask at the judiciary hearing. […] But it is interesting, and I don’t know about everybody, but when I have a mask on, I’m moving it to make it comfortable. And I can’t help but wonder if that puts some germs in the mask.”

Scientists, including the Center for Disease Control, recommend wearing masks to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Masks are most effective at preventing the wearer from giving the virus to others (as opposed to preventing the wearer from getting the virus).

Gohmert’s positive test has contributed to discussions about how  preventative measures in places like the Capitol should be handled. He is among a small group of lawmakers who have recently tested positive for Covid-19.

Elsewhere in the world, some people are going to crazy lengths to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
