Girl Dresses As Ms Trunchbull for World Book Day

Anyone dressed up as Matilda, watch out…

A seven-year-old from Devon took an unusual route this World Book Day with her character choice. Somehow, though, Lilly made a pretty impressive Ms Trunchbull.

Most might have gone for Matilda or Miss Honey, but no – Lilly’s mum Laura recounts Lilly wanted Ms Trunchbull, for Matilda was ‘too easy’.

To create the look, Lilly wore the iconic 1972 Olympics jumper from the movie, a thick belt, a sports bag and a homemade bag of shot puts. Then, to get the face, Lilly had a drawn on monobrow and famous slicked back tiny bun.

When asked why Lilly went as Ms Trunchbull, Laura replied that ‘Matilda is Lilly’s favourite book and one of her favourite films.’

The costume, she said, ‘was very easy to put together, almost all of it was ordered from eBay and I got the hoodie printed locally. It’s fantastic because a lot of the items can be reused for everyday use – the belt is her step-dad’s!’

‘She was bursting at it all when the whole look came together, she couldn’t wait to go to school!’

Some others also went hard for World Book day, like this class containing a Mary Poppins and a Daphne from Scooby-Doo.

Lilly’s Ms Truchbull came to public knowledge through a viral tweet:

Many praised her outfit, calling it ‘PERFECT’ and ‘best thing I’ve ever seen’.

Let’s hope she didn’t grab any of the students by the plaits and swing them around at school that day.
