Well this is not something you hear every day…

Apparently being a DJ will get you killed.

Last Wednesday, Jerry Okirworth was killed in the Nebbi District. According to Kenyan news outlet, SDE, the crowd became violent when they didn’t hear their favorites being played. Eventually they made their way to the stage and beat the poor guy to death.

Nebbi Resident District Commissioner William Bob Labeja claims it was the establishments poor management that led to Okirworth being unprotected and murdered.

As the head of security in the district, I will no longer allow any disco operators to conduct their businesses in the sub-county and anybody who defies the directive will be prosecuted.

All disco halls in all sub counties must be closed because they are causing insecurity and redundancy among the youth.

Well, it sounds like it’s about time for some serious changes. In 2014 a DJ was killed on Independence Day for the same reason.
I had no idea it was so dangerous to be a DJ. Why didn’t they just try asking him to play the songs they wanted to hear? From my experience, any good DJ will take requests and make sure to play them before the night ends. I mean, that’s usually what a person would do…

Maybe Okirworth should have tried this playlist instead? (Too soon?)
