A Finance Manager Stole £370,000 From His Firm To Fund Luxury Lifestyle Which Included Pedigree Kittens.

I think if I had a spare £12,000 I’d probably pay for a holiday with all the trimmings, all of the drinks and the locations rather than something like a potato shaped as a celebrity or something equally as strange. However, if I was going to extort my company of £370,000 I personally wouldn’t spend it on pedigree kittens.

Pedigree Kittens are just one of the luxury items that 41-year-old Matthew Farrimond admitted to spending the £370,000 he stole from the construction firm he worked at called Herbert T Forest in Westhoughton, Great Manchester. He worked as a finance manager which must have been the ideal position in order to get even a foot in this amount of extorion.

He claimed that the money was being given to charities instead and was only discovered when two cheque subs were found showing unplanned large payments to charities. Instead, he had been putting the money into his own account.

Here are some of the things he used the money on:

  1. £150,000 to put a deposit on a new-build property in Buckshaw Village, Chorley, Lancashire.
  2. Holidays
  3. Pedigree Kittens.

(For context, pedigree cats cost around £3500 to £4000 each.)

Farrimond was sentenced to four years for 12 counts of fraud by false representation and one count of money laundering.

Police Constable Kate Riley, of Greater Manchester Police’s Economic Crime Section, said:

Farrimond’s role was to safeguard the financial interests of the company he worked for, but he was the biggest threat to their hard-earned funds.

That he would deceitfully take money from the company he worked for is one thing, but he should be ashamed of the fact he hid his fraud by pretending to pay charities.

I can’t help but agree, extortion is one thing, but practically hiding under the idea that you’re giving it to charities that actually need the money? It is insane!

I can imagine a lot of future tweets saying that this guy is winning in life because what else would you need to spend that money on other than kittens, but what do you all think? What would you spend the money on?

Also, what would you do for a lot of money? Would you move to a Swiss village? because they will pay you to do it! Check it out here!
