Robert De Niro Shouts ‘F*ck Trump’ At The Toni Awards

He sure doesn’t mince words.

Robert De Niro has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump from the start, and it doesn’t seem he’s going to let up any time soon.

Famed actor Robert De Niro needs no introduction, and his dislike of Trump probably doesn’t either. His latest comments don’t come completely out of left field. After all, even during the election De Niro announced he thought the President was nuts.

Recently at the Toni Awards, Robert De Niro declared “fuck Trump”, and, amazingly, received a standing ovation for it.

“It’s no longer ‘down with Trump’. It’s ‘fuck Trump’.” The actor said, before introducing Bruce Springsteen to the stage and expounding a little on his curt words.

Bruce, you can rock the house like nobody else and even more importantly in these perilous times, you rock the vote, always fighting for, in your own words, truth, transparency and integrity in government. Boy, do we need that now.

No, it’s definitely not the most effective form of activism out there. However, an entire room of celebrities banding together in support of insulting the President is, if nothing else, pretty unprecedented. At the very least, it shows where America is at and I’ve gotta say I’m feeling bad for you guys.

Honestly I’m not sure what is worse, people wringing their hands over whether De Niro was too mean or vulgar, or those who believe this is the biggest own ever to Trump. I’d prefer a “fuck Trump” to another ‘covfefe’ joke. Seems like people have similar feelings about the hand wringing:

This suggests that a lot of the backlash De Niro received is fake outrage. I have to admit, concern trolling over some celebrity saying “fuck Trump” is a little rich when the President himself isn’t exactly known for polite and civil discourse. Hell, wasn’t that part of his appeal in the first place?

Aside from that, I have to say my absolute favourite thing about this story is that Australia didn’t even bother to censor De Niro swearing.

Bless Australia.

And of course, the President responded on Twitter.

I guess De Niro hasn’t watched enough Rick and Morty for Donald Trump.

Some people can’t help but feel it’s egotistical for celebrities to involve themselves in politics, but others feel it’s refreshing to see bluntness and honesty. It’s definitely not a big win to the #Resistance or whatever, but it definitely shows that even in Hollywood there’s a pretty collective exhaustion.

If that’s not enough De Niro for you, you may be interested to learn he’s starring in the new Martin Scorsese film ‘The Irishman’.
