Harvey Weinstein’s Wife Speaks Out

Georgina Chapman reveals her struggles.

Harvey Weinstein’s ex-wife – Georgina Chapman – has broken her silence. Here is what she has to say.

2017 was the year where Harvey Weinstein was exposed.

Over 80 women have come forward and accused Weinstein of crimes that vary from sexual misconduct to rape. Some of the accusers include Uma Thurman, Rose McGowan, and Cate Blanchett. Sadly enough, it took big names to give the #MeToo movement steam, but it broke the dam at least. Furthermore, it revealed how even powerful women in the industry can be dis-empowered by abuse.

Throughout all this, Weinstein’s wife – Georgina Chapman – remained silent. She separated from him, though there was no public statement. Which is understandable.

Finally, Chapman has spoken out:

“I was so humiliated and so broken that I didn’t think it was respectful to go out.

I thought, “Who am I to be parading around with all of this going on?” It’s still so very, very raw.

I was walking up the stairs the other day and I stopped; it was like all the air had been punched out of my lungs.

I have moments of rage, I have moments of confusion, I have moments of disbelief! And I have moments when I just cry for my children. What are their lives going to be? ‘What are people going to say to them? It’s like, they love their dad. They love him.’

I don’t want to be viewed as a victim because I don’t think I am. I am a woman in a shit situation, but it’s not unique.”

Judging by her comments, it must have been a surreal experience.

Having to reconcile not only your own hurt, but the hurt of your family, and even more pressingly – the hurt of Weinstein’s victims, is a lot to process.

Some people argue that Chapman must have been aware of her husband’s actions. Therefore, her statement is just a means to bolster her relaunching her career.

Considering the likes of Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Chris Brown et al. have all enjoyed successful careers for decades despite the numerous accusations levied at them, I don’t have it in me to consider Chapman relaunching her career to be the worst thing ever.

Plus, as others have pointed out, anger should be focused primarily at the ones responsible for these crimes. Not someone who may or may not have been complicit.

Additionally, we don’t even know what she experienced being married to Harvey Weinstein. The fact is, we just don’t know the details.

At the very least, Chapman has given us some insight into her mindset that we didn’t previously have. Though personally, I think it’s fine if she doesn’t divulge any further.
