Have you ever dreamt of being able to take a vacation in space whilst orbiting the earth? That dream could soon become a reality. Frank Bunger, CEO and founder of Orion Span (The Texas based company behind the program) plans to have the world’s first space hotel operational by 2022.

The Aurora Station, a modular space station currently being developed by Orion Span will orbit 200 miles above the earth’s surface. The station will orbit the earth once every 90 minutes, offering guests the spectacular view of 16 sunrises and sunsets in 24 hours so don’t forget your camera, imagine the Instagram followers?

A mere $80,000 (£56,500) deposit will get you a reservation at the Zero-G B&B, prices will then start from $9.5 million (£6.7 million) per person for a 12-day stay. Better break open the piggy bank and raid the back of the sofa!

Wannabe astronauts will complete a three-month Orion Span Astronaut Certification (OSAC) program to prepare for the trip. Only four guests can stay in the modular station at a time accompanied by two members of crew. Guests will take part in experiments while aboard the station, some of which they will be able to keep as souvenirs.

Once aboard, guests can enjoy a Star Trek-y Holodeck which is probably some kind of VR headset thing, and high speed Wi-Fi so you can instantly upload all those awesome Snapchats and Instagram posts of all those sunsets/sunrises.

“We developed Aurora Station to provide a turnkey destination in space,” said Bunger,

“Upon launch, Aurora Station will go into service immediately, bringing travellers into space quicker and at a lower price point than ever seen before, while still providing an unforgettable experience.”

You’ve seen that movie with George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, right? Gravity (2013)? Even if I could afford to go muck about in space for 12 days, I most certainly would not. I need good ol’ terrafirma, and what’s wrong with a package deal to Alicante? Sun, beach, beers, none of which you’d get in space for a miniscule fraction of the price.

What do you think about a space hotel? Would you stay? Can you afford to stay? Buy me a flight to Alicante? Leave us your thoughts in the comments. Why not have a gander at this while your perusing our scribbles…….
