German Grandma’s Life Mission Is To Remove Hate

Meet “Graffiti Grandma”.

There’s been a lot of hate and negativity flying around as of late. Sometimes it even spills out into the streets in the form of graffiti or hateful stickers. During these times, the solution takes a lot positivity and a little elbow grease. Meet German “Graffiti Grandma”, 71-year-old Irmela Mensah-Schramm.

Irmela’s dedicating her life to combating Neo-Nazi hate messages that crop up around her country. For the past 30 years, she’s taken to the streets 6 days a week armed with a scraper, nail polish remover, and spray-paint. Then, she travels around Germany and wipes away or spray-paints over any hate messages that she sees, big or small.

She’s covered or removed over 70,000 hateful messages in just the past 10 years.

“I must do something so that the past does not repeat itself.” -Irmela

Change can be as simple as exchanging swastikas hearts.
