Explosions, laser guns, zombies from the 60s, reptilian alien overlords, Sigourney Weaver, the enslavement of the human race, and Dakota Fanning holding a rifle that is far too big for her. These are some the elements that will be found in the bizarre new project by Neill Blomkamp.

For those who don’t know, Neill Blomkamp is a science fiction director most popularly known for the epic South Africa based alien movie, District 9. Over the years he has developed an unfortunately similar career to M. Night Shyamalan. Both filmmakers having groundbreaking directorial debuts followed by progressively less popular releases. You may also know Blomkamp from his other two films Elysium (not great) and Chappie (horrible). Of course none of his films were nearly as much of a shitshow as M. Night’s live action version of The Last Airbender, but his most recent films just haven’t sat very well with audiences and critics. However, his new project might just be intriguing enough to pull him back into the light.

Oats Studios is a new production company founded by Blomkamp that is focusing primarily on experimental short films. The trailer, which was very vaguely titled “Volume 1,” makes it seem like he’ll be reemerging with quite the bang even though little is known about the project other than the killer cast and stunning effects. From the looks of the trailer, there appears to be two or three different short films displayed judging by the changes in the era, wardrobe, location, and style. Although it is vague, it still looks absolutely insane. Blomkamp is not only bringing out his experimental side, but heavily showcasing his true talent as an animator, because the visuals are downright mind-blowing.

There is very minimal information on the release of these short films, but it is definite that they will be available for streaming on the extremely popular computer-based video game platform, Steam. So, not only is this new project very genre heavy, but since it will be available on such a specific platform,  it seems that they are targeting a niche audience and will most likely develop a strong cult following.

Check out the ridiculous trailer above to witness the forthcoming insanity.
